Parking costs at Charlotte Douglas have climbed as the airport shifts to reservations and modernized access

Parking at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) has become a growing pain point for some travelers after a series of price increases that, in some categories, add up to triple‑digit percentage growth over roughly five years. The next set of changes is scheduled to take effect March 1, 2026, raising daily maximum prices across nearly all airport-operated lots and decks.

Under the March 1 schedule, the airport’s posted daily maximums will increase to: Valet $50 (up from $45), Hourly Deck $35 (from $32), Daily Deck $28 (from $20), Express Deck Self‑Park $24 (from $20), Daily North $18 (from $14), and Long Term Lots 1 and 2 to $14 (from $12). Express Deck Preferred remains $24. A short-stay window remains in place: the first 15 minutes are free across lots and decks.

The airport has stated the upcoming changes reflect rising operating costs and shifting demand, and emphasized continued investment in parking facilities. Officials have also said the March 1 increases are the first rate change since November 2023.

How the five-year rise can reach 133%

The steepest long-range percentage gains trace back to a pre-pandemic price point and subsequent increases tied to operational upgrades. In June 2021, CLT announced that drive-up rates would rise on July 6, 2021. That schedule listed the Daily Deck at $12 per day (up from $10), the Hourly Deck at $24 per day (up from $20), and Long Term Lots at $10 per day (up from $7).

Comparing those 2021 drive-up figures with the March 2026 daily maximums helps explain why some travelers cite increases “up to 133%” over about five years. The Daily Deck’s daily maximum is set to move from $12 (July 2021 drive-up rate) to $28 on March 1, 2026—an increase of about 133%.

More than price: parking access has changed

CLT’s parking experience has also shifted operationally. In 2021, the airport pointed to modernization efforts, including a parking revenue control system introduced in 2020 with license-plate recognition, contactless transactions, real-time availability, and broader payment options. The airport also promoted online reservations with discounted pricing relative to drive-up rates.

In recent years, several products have been structured around reservations, with some categories designated as pre-book only. That model can influence both availability and what travelers ultimately pay, depending on how early they reserve and which products have drive-up access.

What travelers can expect beginning March 1, 2026

  • Higher daily maximums across most lots and decks, with the Daily Deck showing the largest single-step increase in the 2026 update ($20 to $28).

  • Pre-booking remains central for several options; some lots are listed as pre-book only while others allow drive-up parking.

  • The first 15 minutes remain free, continuing to support short pickups and drop-offs without a parking charge.

Starting March 1, 2026, CLT will apply higher daily maximum rates to most airport parking options, while maintaining a free first-15-minutes period.

For travelers weighing whether to park on airport property, the combined effect of higher posted maximums and an increasingly reservation-driven system has made parking strategy—lot choice, trip length, and booking timing—a larger part of planning a flight out of Charlotte.
