Charlotte homeowner wins $100,000 on new $20 scratch-off, plans to furnish recently purchased house

A six-figure scratch-off prize claimed days after the game’s statewide launch
A Charlotte resident has claimed a $100,000 prize from a newly released North Carolina scratch-off lottery game, a win she said came soon after purchasing a new home.
The winner, Yolanda Black of Charlotte, bought a $20 “Stacks of Cash” scratch-off ticket at Cigarettes & More on Pineville-Matthews Road in south Charlotte. She scratched the ticket at home and later visited lottery headquarters to claim the prize.
What the winner received after mandatory tax withholdings
While the advertised prize amount was $100,000, the amount paid out at claim reflected required tax withholdings. Black received $72,016 after federal and state withholdings were applied.
She said she plans to use the money to help furnish her recently purchased home.
How the “Stacks of Cash” game works and what prizes remain
“Stacks of Cash” is a $20 scratch-off game that entered the market on January 6, 2026. The game’s top advertised prize is $2 million and its overall odds of winning a prize are listed as 1 in 3.35.
The prize structure includes multiple tiers, with several high-value prizes available beyond the top jackpots. As of mid-January, the lottery’s prize inventory showed that the majority of the game’s largest prizes had not yet been claimed, including all three $2 million top prizes and five of the six $100,000 prizes.
Ticket price: $20
Top prize: $2,000,000
Overall odds of winning any prize: 1 in 3.35
High-tier prizes remaining in mid-January: 3 of 3 top prizes; 5 of 6 $100,000 prizes
Lottery claims and taxes: what players should know
Lottery prizes are treated as taxable income, and winnings above certain thresholds trigger reporting requirements and standard withholding at the time a prize is claimed. For prizes over $5,000, both federal and state withholding apply as a minimum standard at payout, and the final tax obligation can vary depending on an individual’s circumstances.
Black described her reaction after revealing the prize at home as immediate excitement before sharing the news with her husband.
The win marks one of the first publicly documented $100,000 claims tied to the new “Stacks of Cash” game since its early-January release.
