Transit Advisory: Road Closures for 'The Big Game 4 Miler'

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has announced significant service adjustments for Sunday, February 8, to accommodate "The Big Game 4 Miler." Motorists and transit riders should expect delays and detours in the Uptown and stadium districts between 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

  • Impacted Roadways: Major closures include Cedar Street, Morehead Street, Graham Street, and Mint Street.
  • Bus Route Detours: Routes 5, 8, 34, and 35 will be temporarily adjusted. Riders should note that stops 59591 and 59590 will be missed during this period.
  • Commuter Resources: Residents are encouraged to use the CATS-Pass mobile app to identify alternative stops and receive real-time updates on route status.

Public Health Alert: Measles Exposure and Respiratory Virus Surge

Mecklenburg County Public Health has issued a critical advisory following the confirmation of two measles cases in the county. Officials have identified potential exposure sites at the Lidl grocery store and Vista Auction. This local investigation coincides with a regional outbreak in South Carolina that has now surpassed 600 confirmed cases.

In addition to the measles alert, health officials report that flu-like respiratory illnesses in the Charlotte area have reached their highest levels in nearly 30 years. Residents are urged to verify their MMR vaccination status and practice standard health precautions, such as staying home if symptomatic, as respiratory cases are expected to remain elevated throughout the month.

City Council Schedule and Public Hearings

The City of Charlotte has updated its municipal meeting calendar for the first half of February. Residents are invited to participate in the following upcoming sessions at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center:

  • Monday, Feb. 9: The Council Action Review and Consent Items briefing begins at 5:00 p.m. in Room 267, followed by the formal Business Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber.
  • Monday, Feb. 16: An official notice has been posted for a series of public hearings regarding significant zoning petitions. Due to the high volume of items on the agenda, the Council has noted the meeting may be recessed and continued if necessary.

Community Safety and Infrastructure Updates

Following two consecutive weekends of winter weather, "Team Charlotte" crews remain on standby to manage residual road impacts. While temperatures are expected to reach the mid-40s on Sunday, residents should remain cautious of low overnight temperatures in the 20s. In other safety news, Charlotte Fire recently announced the acquisition of specialized fuel tank firefighting tools for the "Tank Town" industrial area, funded by a community safety grant to improve industrial incident response times.
