Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure and Vaccination
Mecklenburg County Public Health is currently monitoring a series of potential measles exposures across the Charlotte area following a recent rise in confirmed cases in the Carolinas. As of February 27, 2026, health officials have confirmed three active cases within Mecklenburg County and have identified a total of eight exposure sites. Residents who visited the following locations during the specified dates and times are advised to monitor for symptoms for 21 days after their visit:
- Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (1000 Blythe Blvd.): February 3 (6:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.) and February 4 (7 p.m. – midnight).
- Chipotle (239 S. Kings Drive): February 3 (9:50 p.m. – 11:50 p.m.).
- Goodwill (58085 University Point Blvd.): February 4 (Noon – 3:45 p.m.).
- Goodwill (3710 West W.T. Harris Blvd.): February 4 (2:00 p.m. – 4:40 p.m.).
Measles is highly contagious and can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash. Public Health officials stress that anyone experiencing these symptoms should call their healthcare provider before visiting a clinic or emergency room to prevent further spread. The MMR vaccine remains the most effective protection and is widely available at local pharmacies and the Mecklenburg County Public Health Immunization Clinic.
Community Safety and Nominations
The City of Charlotte has officially opened nominations for the 46th Annual Police-Community Relations Awards. This program recognizes Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers and community members who have worked collaboratively to enhance neighborhood safety and build trust. Nominations are being accepted through the end of March 2026. Additionally, as seasonal temperatures begin to fluctuate, the city has issued a "Four Steps to Stay Flood Safe" advisory. Residents are encouraged to clear storm drains of debris, sign up for CharMeck Alerts, and avoid driving through standing water during heavy rain events.
Parks, Recreation, and Infrastructure
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is moving into the final phase of the "Meck Playbook" master plan update. A series of community workshops will be held throughout late February and March to gather public input on future facility investments and land acquisition priorities. Furthermore, active seniors are reminded that the registration deadline for the 2026 Mecklenburg County Senior Games and SilverArts is Saturday, February 28. In infrastructure news, the Charlotte City Council is currently reviewing a proposed pause on the I-77 toll lane expansion project following significant community feedback. A formal discussion on the project’s future is scheduled for the upcoming city retreat.
