CMPD investigates fatal shooting in northwest Charlotte church parking lot; victim identified as 34-year-old man

Homicide investigation opened after late-night shooting
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives are investigating a homicide following a fatal shooting in northwest Charlotte that left one man dead late Tuesday night, November 25, 2025.
Police said officers were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to the 1600 block of Thriftwood Drive in the Freedom Division on a call initially classified as an assault with a deadly weapon with injury. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.
Victim identified; limited public details released
The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Lindy Kompeak Hoeun. Police have not released additional information about what led up to the shooting, whether the victim knew the shooter, or whether investigators have developed a suspect description.
The incident occurred near Freedom Christian Center. Church representatives stated the victim was not a member or associate of the church.
How the investigation is being handled
CMPD’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to collect evidence and continue the investigation. Additional CMPD personnel, along with Charlotte Fire Department representatives, also assisted at the scene. CMPD reported that the case remains active and ongoing, and that further information will be released as it becomes available through the department’s public communications process.
