CMPD investigates fatal shooting near NoDa after 37-year-old man dies in hospital

What happened
A homicide investigation is underway after a man died from gunshot injuries linked to a shooting near Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood, police said.
Officers responded shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in the 100 block of Atando Avenue, in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s North Tryon Division. Police said officers found a victim with life-threatening injuries consistent with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital by MEDIC.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, police said Bradley Reid, 37, died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Police said next of kin were notified.
Location and initial response
The incident occurred near the intersection of North Tryon Street and Atando Avenue, an area a short drive from the NoDa arts and entertainment district and adjacent to heavily traveled corridors in northeast Charlotte. Investigators did not immediately release information on what led to the shooting, whether the victim was targeted, or whether there is an identified suspect.
Police said homicide detectives assumed control of the case after Reid’s death, shifting the investigation from an assault case to a homicide inquiry.
What investigators have said — and what remains unknown
As of Tuesday night, police had not publicly reported arrests, described a suspect or vehicle, or provided details about a possible motive. Detectives also had not released information about any surveillance footage, witnesses, or whether the shooting may be connected to other incidents in the area.
Police described the victim’s injuries as consistent with a gunshot wound and said the shooting was reported in the 100 block of Atando Avenue.
