Jacksonville Dolphins open Charlotte Invitational with two losses, falling to Boston University and Marshall

Two close games set early tone for Jacksonville in Charlotte

The Jacksonville Dolphins opened play at the UNC Charlotte Invitational with two defeats on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, dropping their first two games of the weekend at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium in Charlotte. Jacksonville fell 6-5 to Boston University in the morning session and later lost to Marshall in the second game of the day.

The Charlotte Invitational is scheduled for Feb. 20–22 and includes four teams: host Charlotte, Boston University, Marshall and Jacksonville. The event follows Charlotte’s Queen City Classic the prior weekend and is part of a stretch of early-season tournaments that shape nonconference résumés before league play begins.

Boston University edges Jacksonville by one run

In the opener, Boston University held off Jacksonville 6-5. The one-run margin reflected a game in which Jacksonville stayed within striking distance throughout, but could not produce the final swing to overtake the Terriers.

The matchup carried added weight for Jacksonville because the Dolphins are slated to see Boston University twice during the tournament weekend, creating an immediate opportunity for an on-site rematch and adjustments in approach.

Marshall hands Dolphins a second setback in day two game slot

Jacksonville’s second game of the day ended in another loss, this time against Marshall. With two games completed on the opening day, Jacksonville moved into the remaining schedule needing results on Saturday and Sunday to finish the tournament above .500.

How the weekend is structured

The Dolphins entered the Charlotte weekend as part of a five-game slate at the invitational. Jacksonville’s published tournament schedule includes:

  • Feb. 20: vs. Boston University and vs. Marshall
  • Feb. 21: vs. Boston University and at Charlotte
  • Feb. 22: at Charlotte

What comes next

After Friday’s results, Jacksonville remained set to continue Charlotte Invitational play on Saturday with a morning game against Boston University and an afternoon matchup with host Charlotte, before closing the tournament Sunday against Charlotte.

Charlotte’s 2026 schedule lists the Charlotte Invitational as the second of two consecutive home tournaments in February, following the Queen City Classic.
