Local Government Meetings and Community Sessions Set for Tuesday

Mecklenburg County officials and City of Charlotte planners are scheduled for a busy day of governance and community engagement this Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Highlighting the day’s agenda is the regular meeting of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), alongside several specialized city workshops focusing on urban development, transit policy, and public safety.

County Commission and Advisory Board Sessions

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners will gather at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center for its regular voting session today. While the full board handles county-wide legislative matters, two major committees—the Health and Human Services Committee and the Economic Development Committee—are also slated to meet at the 600 E. Fourth Street facility. These sessions allow commissioners to review specific policy areas, including regional business growth strategies and community health initiatives, before bringing recommendations to the full body later this evening.

Additionally, several county-affiliated agencies are holding essential meetings. The Mecklenburg EMS Agency is convening both its Quality Management Committee and Medical Control Board to review service standards. Other meetings include the Waste Management Advisory Board, the Mecklenburg Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Board, and the Board of Elections, which is scheduled to conduct an absentee board meeting at their Kenilworth Avenue location.

City Growth and Public Input Workshops

The City of Charlotte is prioritizing long-term growth and resident feedback through a series of public planning sessions today. A Virtual Community Area Planning Workshop is scheduled to take place, focusing on how the city can better support housing variety, job creation, and access to essential services like grocery stores. This is part of the city’s ongoing effort to refine plans that will dictate development patterns for years to come.

In addition to broader planning, the city is hosting two targeted feedback events. The Street Vending Public Input Session will allow residents and local entrepreneurs to discuss proposed policy changes affecting mobile vendors. Simultaneously, the Reconnecting the West End Public Pin-up event will showcase design ideas for the Interstate 77 and Trade Street interchange area, with a focus on improving pedestrian conditions and community spaces.

Administrative and Planning Oversight

Other administrative bodies meeting today include the Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority (MPTA) Ad Hoc Bylaws Committee and the city's standing Planning Committee. These groups will handle technical updates to transit governance and review upcoming rezoning or land-use proposals. Residents interested in the library system can also attend the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Board of Trustees meeting at ImaginOn, where leaders will discuss upcoming library programs and facility management.
