Official City Roundup: Measles Health Advisory and Critical Transit Alerts
Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure Notice
Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) has issued several public service announcements following three confirmed cases of measles in the region. Residents are advised to monitor for symptoms if they visited several high-traffic locations in early February. Critical exposure windows include Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (Feb. 3-4), the Chipotle on South Kings Drive (Feb. 3), and Goodwill locations on University Point Boulevard and West W.T. Harris Boulevard (Feb. 4).
Health officials emphasize that while these locations are now safe to visit, the virus is highly contagious and can remain active in the air for up to two hours. Symptoms to watch for include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a red, blotchy rash. If you suspect exposure, contact your healthcare provider or the MCPH Immunization Clinic immediately before arriving in person to prevent further spread.
Transit Alert: Independence Boulevard Busway Closure
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has issued an official notice regarding the temporary closure of the Independence Boulevard Busway. The closure is required for emergency manhole repairs and is currently impacting several express routes. Riders of routes 40x, 46x, 52x, 64x, and 74x should expect detours and potential delays while maintenance is performed. Additionally, CATS reminds passengers using Microtransit services to schedule their trips in advance by calling 704-336-7433 to ensure vehicle availability.
Infrastructure Update: Blue Line Pedestrian Skybridge
Progress continues on the installation of a new 200-foot pedestrian skybridge connecting the Eastway Regional Recreation Center and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center. The bridge, which spans the Blue Line tracks between the Sugar Creek and Old Concord stations, remains under construction. Commuters and pedestrians in the northeast Charlotte corridor should exercise caution near work zones as crews secure the structure onto its support towers.
