Presidents’ Day Solid Waste Collection Schedule

The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services has confirmed that there will be no delay in residential collection services for the Presidents’ Day holiday on Monday, February 16, 2026. Residents scheduled for Monday pickup should place garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky item carts at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. to ensure service. This week is officially designated as a green recycling week. While municipal administrative offices may observe holiday hours, essential waste collection operations will proceed on their regular schedule to maintain community sanitation standards.

Public Notice: City Council Zoning Meeting and Hearings

The Charlotte City Council is scheduled to convene for a comprehensive Zoning Meeting on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The proceedings will take place in the Council Chamber at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, located at 600 East Fourth Street. Due to the high volume of public hearings currently on the docket, officials have issued a notice that the meeting may be recessed at 10:00 p.m. and resumed at a subsequent date if the agenda is not completed.

Key items scheduled for public testimony and council deliberation include:

  • Petition 2025-086: A significant rezoning request by Pence Road Development LLC involving approximately 31.17 acres located north of Pence Road and east of Bandy Drive.
  • Petition 2025-129: A request by True Homes for a zoning change on nearly five acres situated south of West W.T. Harris Boulevard and east of West Sugar Creek Road.
  • Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Updates: Proposed text amendments to the UDO intended to refine definitions and development standards in alignment with the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

Members of the public interested in speaking at these hearings should follow standard city protocols for registration. The meeting will be broadcast live for those unable to attend in person.

Community Area Planning and Safety Initiatives

Following the Monday holiday, the city will host a virtual Community Area Planning Workshop on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. These workshops are a vital component of the city’s strategy to manage growth and improve access to housing and essential daily needs. Additionally, the city continues to prioritize the Vision Zero safety initiative. Residents are encouraged to use the CLT+ mobile application to report any hazardous road conditions or infrastructure concerns that impact pedestrian and motorist safety across the city's high-injury network corridors.
