Official Public Notice: Spring Time Changes and Regional Health Advisories

Public Service Announcement: Daylight Saving Time Observation
The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s Office reminds all residents that Daylight Saving Time officially begins this Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 2:00 a.m. As clocks "spring forward" one hour, officials emphasize that this is the critical time for households to perform semi-annual safety maintenance. Residents should test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are in proper working order. It is highly recommended to replace batteries in all units, even if they appear functional, as early warning systems are the most effective tool for life safety during a fire emergency.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Vaccination Guidance
Mecklenburg County Public Health and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) have issued an active advisory regarding community transmission of measles in the Charlotte Metropolitan area. Due to anticipated ongoing transmission, health officials now recommend that clinicians consider early MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccination for infants aged 6 to 11 months who reside in or frequently visit the Charlotte metro region. This recommendation extends to Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. Parents are encouraged to consult with their pediatricians to ensure all family members are up to date on vaccinations.
Public Notice: Repeal of Residential Swimming Pool Rules
Notice is hereby given that the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners, acting as the Consolidated Human Services Agency, has initiated the repeal of the Board of Health Rule Governing Residential Swimming Pools. This action is required by North Carolina Session Law 2025-94, which removes local authority to adopt specific rules for residential pools. The repeal was officially published on March 6, 2026, and is scheduled to take effect on March 16, 2026. Questions regarding the repeal or requests for copies of the existing rule may be directed to the Clerk to the Board at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
Law Enforcement Alert: Missing Person Investigation
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Missing Persons Unit is requesting public assistance in locating 35-year-old Sarah O’Hagan. Ms. O’Hagan was last seen on foot in the 3800 block of Nevin Road on the afternoon of March 5. She is described as having a cognitive impairment and may appear lost or confused. She was last seen wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt, black shirt, and black pants. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact 9-1-1 immediately.
Community Service Update: Senior Transportation Expansion
The Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS) has announced an expansion of medical and general transportation services for eligible seniors. Residents aged 60 and older, as well as disabled residents under 60, may now access expanded trip options for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and employment. While Medicaid-approved medical trips remain at no cost, other qualifying trips will incur a flat fee of $1.50 each way. New customers can apply for these services through the MTS intake line.
