Mecklenburg County Public Health has issued a critical advisory regarding potential measles exposure at several high-traffic locations in Charlotte. Health officials identified exposure windows following visits from an individual with a confirmed case of the virus. Residents who visited the following locations during the specified times are urged to monitor for symptoms such as high fever, cough, and a characteristic red rash:

  • Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (1000 Blythe Blvd.): Feb. 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Feb. 4 from 7 p.m. to midnight.
  • Chipotle (239 S. Kings Drive): Feb. 3 from 9:50 p.m. to 11:50 p.m.
  • Goodwill (5808 University Point Blvd.): Feb. 4 from noon to 3:45 p.m.
  • Goodwill (3710 W. W.T. Harris Blvd.): Feb. 4 from 2 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Health officials emphasize that these locations are currently safe to visit and are cooperating with the investigation. Residents who are not vaccinated or are unsure of their immunization status should contact their healthcare provider immediately if symptoms develop. The MMR vaccine remains available at the Mecklenburg County Public Health Immunization Clinic.

Official Notice: City Council Zoning Hearings

The Charlotte City Council has scheduled a series of public hearings for Monday, February 16, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. Due to the high volume of petitions, including major requests in the Ballantyne and University City areas, the meeting may be recessed at 10:00 p.m. and continued if necessary. Key petitions include residential and mixed-use changes on Carnegie Boulevard and Pence Road. Residents can view the proceedings live on the Government Channel or provide input during the scheduled public forum.

City Leadership and Planning Updates

The City of Charlotte has officially named Monica Holmes as the Director of Charlotte Planning, Design & Development. Having served in the interim role since February 2025, Holmes will now permanently oversee the city's rapid growth and the implementation of the remaining Community Area Plans. A virtual workshop for the next phase of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for February 17, where residents can provide feedback on neighborhood-level infrastructure and land use.

Public Service Alert: Tax Misinformation

Mecklenburg County has issued a warning regarding AI-generated misinformation circulating online concerning North Carolina veteran vehicle tax exemptions. Official sources confirm that recent social media posts claiming new, automatic exemptions for all veterans are inaccurate. Taxpayers are advised to verify all exemption eligibility directly through the Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office to avoid fraudulent filing services.
