Government and Council Proceedings

The Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to convene today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, for a Budget and Public Policy Meeting at 2:30 p.m. A primary focus of this session is the development of the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget. Commissioners are expected to review updates on Project BOAST (Business Opportunity and Supportive Transit), a strategic initiative designed to equip local small businesses with the resources needed to compete for upcoming roadway and public transportation contracts funded by the recently approved sales tax increase.

  • UDO Board of Adjustment: The Unified Development Ordinance Board of Adjustment will hold its monthly meeting today to hear appeals and variance requests regarding land use and development standards.
  • MPTA Ad Hoc Bylaws Committee: The Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority’s committee will meet to discuss governance updates and organizational bylaws.
  • Board of Elections: An Absentee Board of Elections meeting is scheduled for today at the Kenilworth Avenue office to conduct routine business regarding ballot processing and election readiness.

Community Engagement and City Growth

The City of Charlotte is hosting a virtual Community Area Planning Workshop today as part of the implementation of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan. This session provides residents with a platform to offer feedback on neighborhood-specific growth, focusing on enhancing access to essential services, diverse housing options, and local employment hubs. The city continues to seek community input to ensure that infrastructure development aligns with the needs of individual service areas.

Additionally, Police Chief Estella D. Patterson will host a "Let's Talk About It" community conversation session. This initiative is designed to foster direct dialogue between the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department leadership and residents regarding public safety, neighborhood policing, and service improvements in the Northwest Service Area.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure Monitoring

Mecklenburg County Public Health remains in a period of active monitoring following measles exposure alerts issued earlier this month. While all locations listed are currently safe for the public to visit, health officials advise individuals who were present at the following locations during the specified windows to monitor for symptoms—including high fever, cough, and a distinctive red rash—through late February:

  • Atrium Health CMC (Midtown): Potential exposure on Feb. 3 (6:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.) and Feb. 4 (7:00 p.m. – midnight).
  • Chipotle (S. Kings Dr.): Potential exposure on Feb. 3 (9:50 p.m. – 11:50 p.m.).
  • Goodwill Locations (University Point and W.T. Harris Blvd): Potential exposure during afternoon hours on Feb. 4.

Transportation and Transit Advocacy

Regional transit advocates from All Aboard Charlotte are highlighting service gaps today, specifically calling for the North Carolina Department of Transportation to reinstate morning and evening stops in Salisbury and Kannapolis on the Piedmont rail line. This advocacy coincides with ongoing city and county evaluations of the 2026 mobility investments, which aim to improve connectivity between Charlotte and surrounding municipalities while supporting anti-displacement measures for residents living near major transit corridors.
