CATS Fare Study Meeting Postponement

The City of Charlotte and the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) have officially announced the postponement of the planned Fare Study public meeting previously scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026. The meeting, which was set to take place at the Valerie C. Woodard Center, has been delayed due to persistent hazardous road conditions following the recent winter storm. Safety remains the top priority for all community members and staff during this recovery period. Officials will provide updates on a rescheduled date via the CATS-Pass app and official social media channels. In the interim, residents are encouraged to view the virtual meeting on the CATS YouTube channel and provide feedback through the online Fare Modernization Survey.

Solid Waste Collection and Winter Weather Protocols

Following the suspension of garbage, recycling, and yard waste services earlier this week due to extreme winter weather, the City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services continues to operate on a modified schedule. Residents who typically receive collection on Wednesdays are advised to place their carts at the curb and leave them until collected, as crews work through the backlog caused by the record snowfall. Officials remind the public that this is currently a green recycling week. Community members are also urged to remain vigilant regarding frozen pipes and downed tree limbs. The local state of emergency remains active, providing the necessary framework for emergency staffing as the region stabilizes from the recent storm that brought 6 to 12 inches of snow to the area.

Mecklenburg County Public Health Advisories

Mecklenburg County Public Health has issued two active health advisories for the community. First, residents and healthcare providers are alerted to a recent increase in local mpox cases, with a prompt for providers to include the condition in differential diagnoses. Second, an advisory remains in effect encouraging all residents to ensure they are up to date on Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations. This notice follows reports of an ongoing measles outbreak in nearby Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Residents experiencing clinically consistent symptoms are urged to contact their healthcare provider immediately and report any communicable conditions to prevent further spread.
