Public Notice: City Council Budget Workshop and Regional Health Advisories

City Council Budget Workshop and Business Meeting
The Charlotte City Council has a full schedule today, Monday, February 23, 2026, centered on the city’s future financial planning and direct public engagement. These sessions represent a critical phase in the annual legislative calendar as the city transitions into the budget development cycle.
- FY 2026 Budget Workshop #1: At 2:00 p.m. today, the City Council will gather in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. This is the first of several planned workshops for the Fiscal Year 2026 Annual Operating and Capital Budget. Officials will review departmental needs, revenue projections, and proposed capital investments.
- Public Forum and Business Meeting: The standard evening session begins with a Public Forum at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 600 E. Fourth Street. This forum allows residents to provide comments on any topic of local concern. Following the forum, the Council will proceed with its regular business meeting. Residents can watch the proceedings live on the Government Channel or via the city’s streaming applications.
Mecklenburg County Advisory Board Meetings
Several county-level boards are also holding public meetings today to address specific community and environmental issues:
- Air Quality Commission: Members will meet today at the Hal Marshall Conference Room on Suttle Avenue to discuss regional air quality monitoring and compliance with environmental standards.
- Women’s Advisory Board: A meeting is scheduled at the Valerie C. Woodard Center on Freedom Drive. The board focuses on advocating for the needs of women in the community and reviewing local policy impacts on gender equity.
Public Health Monitoring and Advisories
Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) maintains several active notices for the community this week:
- Measles Awareness: Following exposure notices issued earlier this month, health officials continue to monitor for potential cases. While no new sites have been added today, residents who visited high-traffic retail or medical locations in the first half of February are still encouraged to verify their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms.
- Live Well Meck Tour: The 2026 Community Health Assessment tour is currently underway. Public Health representatives are traveling throughout the county to gather feedback on local health needs to inform the 2026 Community Health Improvement Plan.
Public Service Reminders
City services, including trash, recycling, and yard waste collection, will operate on their normal Monday schedule today. The Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) advises motorists to remain alert for ongoing maintenance and to use the city’s interactive mapping tools for real-time updates on local road construction and temporary lane closures.
