Public Health Advisories: Respiratory Illness and Vaccination Alerts

Mecklenburg County Public Health and the NCDHHS have issued updated advisories effective March 5, 2026, regarding seasonal illness and communicable disease prevention.

  • Measles Vaccination Outreach: Due to a continuing outbreak in neighboring regions and four confirmed local cases, health officials recommend early MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccination for infants aged 6 to 11 months residing in the Charlotte metropolitan area.
  • Flu Season Update: North Carolina has reported a significant increase in flu-related fatalities this season. Residents aged six months and older are urged to stay current with seasonal vaccinations and practice respiratory etiquette in public spaces.
  • Mpox Health Advisory: A recent increase in new mpox cases has prompted a renewed advisory for healthcare providers to include the virus in differential diagnoses for symptomatic patients. Vaccination remains available for high-risk individuals.

Public Service Announcements and Community Alerts

In addition to formal meetings, the city is highlighting the following service updates and safety initiatives:

  • Severe Weather Preparedness Week: The city is hosting outreach events this week to raise awareness about severe weather risks, including emergency kit preparation and alert system registration via the CLT+ app.
  • CATS Transition and Travel Training: As the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) prepares for its transition to the Mecklenburg Public Transportation Authority under the PAVE Act, public travel training sessions are available. Staff will assist residents with the CATS Pass app and navigating updated bus and rail schedules.
  • I-77 Toll Lane Project: Following recent Council approval, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has agreed to a three-month delay in seeking contractor proposals to allow for further community consultation regarding the project’s impact on West Charlotte neighborhoods.
