Public Update: City Council Sessions, Health Alerts, and Transit Advisories for February 9

Official City Council and Commission Meetings
The City of Charlotte has a full slate of official business scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026. The Charlotte City Council will convene at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center for a two-part session. The evening begins at 5:00 p.m. in Room 267 for the Council Action Review and a review of consent items. This will be followed by the formal Business Meeting and Public Forum at 6:30 p.m. in the main Council Chamber. Residents are encouraged to attend or view the proceedings via the city's government channel.
In addition to the main council meeting, several advisory boards are holding sessions today:
- Planning Commission Work Session: This monthly meeting is held at the Government Center, specifically in room CH-14, to discuss long-term development strategies.
- Historic Landmarks Commission: A public hearing and commission meeting are scheduled for Room 266 of the Government Center to review preservation projects.
- Domestic Violence Advisory Board: This monthly meeting will be conducted in an online format to coordinate citizen-led safety initiatives.
- Agricultural Advisory Board: Members will meet at the Hal Marshall Conference Room on Suttle Avenue.
Urgent Public Health Advisory: Measles Exposure
Mecklenburg County Public Health has issued a critical advisory following confirmed measles exposures in the region. Health officials are currently monitoring three confirmed cases. Residents who visited the Vista Auction on Sardis Road or the Lidl location on Monroe Road during the final week of January are urged to monitor for symptoms, including high fever, cough, and a characteristic rash. Public health officials emphasize that these locations are now safe to visit, but the advisory remains active to prevent further community spread. Vaccination remains the most effective defense, and the county is offering immunization clinics for those who are not up to date on their MMR vaccines.
Public Safety and Legislative Oversight
In a significant move regarding regional safety, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, Police Chief Estella Patterson, and Sheriff Garry McFadden are scheduled to appear before a North Carolina House oversight committee today, February 9. The testimony in Raleigh will address crime-fighting strategies and public safety spending, specifically focusing on security measures following recent incidents on the city's light rail system. This session is part of a broader state-level review of local law enforcement staffing and municipal safety protocols.
Transit and Service Adjustments
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has announced updates regarding its ongoing Fare Modernization Study. Due to recent weather-related postponements, upcoming public meetings regarding fare structures have been rescheduled. Residents are encouraged to utilize the CATS-Pass app or the official website for new meeting dates. Additionally, the city reminds residents that the phased implementation of Solid Waste service fee adjustments is currently in effect, intended to support infrastructure improvements and the expansion of public safety communication networks as outlined in the current fiscal year budget.
