Security guard arrested after customer stabbed during early-morning confrontation at Woodshed Bar in west Charlotte

What happened

A stabbing at a west Charlotte bar sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries and led to the arrest of a security guard, police records and court paperwork show.

The incident occurred at Woodshed Bar, located on Queen City Drive near Billy Graham Parkway. Emergency medical responders said a person was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, Feb. 9, 2025.

Arrest and initial case details

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested 34-year-old Christopher Harris in connection with the stabbing. Jail records showed he was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail with no bond set at the time of the initial report.

The victim, identified as Rod Jackson, said he was stabbed twice in the torso and required surgery. He said medical staff told him the injuries affected his large intestine and required his abdomen to be opened during treatment.

Accounts of the confrontation

Jackson described the encounter as beginning with a verbal dispute in a crowded bar. He said the disagreement centered on him being told to move, followed by an exchange in which he said he did not intend to leave because he had just purchased a drink.

Jackson said the situation escalated physically and the two men were separated. He said he believed other employees escorted Harris outside, but that Harris later re-entered the bar and the stabbing occurred shortly after.

Jackson said he had not previously had issues with Harris and did not understand why the confrontation turned violent.

Questions raised about security practices

The bar’s owner, Timothy Lee, said Harris was not a direct employee and had been contracted through a third-party provider. Lee also said he does not hire armed security and stated that Harris should not have possessed a weapon while working at the venue.

Lee described the security role as focused on screening patrons—such as using a wand and conducting occasional pat-downs—to help prevent weapons from entering the bar.

What remains unclear

  • Investigators had not publicly provided a detailed account of what occurred inside the bar beyond what was reflected in early reporting and initial records.

  • The specific circumstances of how the weapon was obtained or used, and the precise sequence of events leading to the stabbing, were not fully established in the information available at the time.

  • Any additional charges, court dates, or case developments beyond the initial arrest were not detailed in the initial reports.

The case remains a reminder of the stakes involved when crowd-control disputes escalate and of the legal and operational scrutiny that can follow when contracted security personnel are accused of using deadly force.
