UTSA Ends 17-Game Skid With Late 20-0 Run, Beating Charlotte 88-79 at Halton Arena

AAC meeting turns on an extended scoring drought as Roadrunners earn first league win
UTSA snapped a 17-game losing streak Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, rallying to defeat Charlotte 88-79 at Dale F. Halton Arena in a matchup of American Athletic Conference opponents. The win improved the Roadrunners to 5-20 overall and 1-12 in league play, while Charlotte fell to 13-12 and 7-5 in the AAC.
The decisive swing came late. UTSA erased a 13-point deficit by producing a 20-0 run, a stretch that turned a Charlotte lead into a 77-70 UTSA advantage with under three minutes remaining. During that run, Charlotte went without a field goal for nearly eight minutes, allowing UTSA to seize control after trailing for much of the afternoon.

Guard Jamir Simpson led UTSA with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Brent Moss and Baboucarr Njie added 16 points apiece, and UTSA placed multiple scorers in double figures as it finished the game with 88 points after scoring 38 in the first half.
UTSA’s efficiency was also reflected in ball security: the Roadrunners committed only three turnovers, a season low. They shot 31-of-64 from the field (48.4%) and went 18-of-20 at the free-throw line.
- UTSA scoring leaders: Jamir Simpson (20), Brent Moss (16), Baboucarr Njie (16)

Charlotte’s Bradford posts a double-double in a loss
Charlotte was led by Ben Bradford, who finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Major Freeman scored 13 points, and Damoni Harrison added 11 as the 49ers carried a 44-38 lead into halftime after outscoring UTSA 44-38 in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half, however, tilted sharply. After Charlotte scored 35 points after the break, the 49ers’ offense stalled during the late-game drought that coincided with UTSA’s run. Bradford’s performance still stood out, adding to a season in which he has been one of Charlotte’s primary scorers.
Final score: UTSA 88, Charlotte 79 (Halftime: Charlotte 44, UTSA 38)
What the result means in the AAC standings picture
For UTSA, the victory marked both its first conference win of the season and its first win since Nov. 25, ending a skid that had become a program low point. For Charlotte, the loss represented a missed opportunity to strengthen its conference position, particularly after controlling much of the game before the late shift in momentum.
